Mr. Matt Anderson is a Graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon and served with the Royal Australian Engineers as a Troop Commander.
In 1995, Natthew joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and served in a number of senior positions including, Ambassador to Afghanistan, High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands and Samoa and Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Matt has a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Deakin University and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Trade from Monash University. He was awarded a Public Service Medal for his role in leading the humanitarian and consular response to the 2009 Pacific tsunami.
In April 2020, Matt was appointed Director of the Australian War Memorial.
Matt is married to Lou, who is a currently serving DFAT Officer and they have 3 children.
