
Rod Bunten – Retired UK Diplomat and Teacher – ‘The Life of a UK Diplomat’

Rod Bunten grew up in Cornwall and Gloucestershire. He studied Physics at Oxford University, before starting a diplomatic career at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Mr. Bunten undertook successful diplomatic postings in a number of regions, including New York, Taiwan and Hong Kong. During this period Mr. Bunten married Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC who was then an Australian diplomat.
In 2009 Mr. Bunten left the diplomatic service and, after completing a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education, commenced a second career as a secondary teacher of physics and mathematics. His career was paused in 2015, when he accompanied Her Excellency to China, when she was the Australian. Ambassador. Mr Bunten has also been a tutor to students at the Australian Defence Academy and Canberra University. In 2021 Mr Bunten’s wife was appointed the Governor of South Australia. They have 4 children and a cavoodle, ‘Alice’.
