Pamela Rajkowski B.A. OAM – “Aboriginal and Afghan Cameleers”

Pamela Rajkowski OAM is a South Australian historian who, since 1980, travelled Australia while teaching full-time to research, conduct interviews and document the history and contribution of the Afghan cameleers of Australia.

 

Pamela interviewed cameleer and Afghan-Aboriginal descendants, academics, ethnic community leaders, Aboriginal people and significant outback characters. Her first book “In the Tracks of the Camelmen” published in 1987, has been constantly in demand and was followed by two other very popular books in 1995 and 2012.

 

Pamela is regularly invited to give interviews and public talks on diverse topics related to Afghan cameleers. Pamela has been a consultant to several State and national bodies, including the SA Museum, Adelaide City Council, Adelaide Cemeteries Authority, the Adelaide City Mosque and the National ABC Coasts series.

In 2009, Pamela was awarded an OAM for her research and community service into the Aboriginal and Afghan cameleers.
