DESCRIPTION:Monica Oliphant is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of South Australia\, a University Fellow at Charles Darwin University and also runs her own Consultancy.  She worked 18 years for the electricity utility ETSA as a research scientist in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency and was involved in the SA Government’s wind resource assessment program in the late 1980’s. \n  \nAdjunct Associate Professor Oliphant is a member of the International Solar Energy Society and was President from 2008 – 2009.  Monica has travelled extensively overseas\, speaking at Conferences and meetings. \nAdjunct Associate Professor Oliphant has participated on many Australian Federal and State Government Committees and was a Board member of both the Premier’s Round Table in sustainability and then Renewables SA.  She received an AO in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours List in recognition of her work in Renewable Energy and was named 2016 Senior South Australian of the Year.

DESCRIPTION:Peter Nikoloff is an Executive Director and Co-founder of Nova Systems and Senior Weapons System Engineer.  He obtained an Aeronautical Engineer degree from RMIT in 1986 and has 30 years experience supporting Defence and Space projects.  Peter’s Woomera Test Range experience includes supporting the recent upgrade and operations for both military weapon systems and launch operations. \n  \nSpace is one of Nova’s fastest growing areas\, supporting Defence’s Military Satcom\, Geospatial Information Systems and Satellite Ground Stations.  Peter is a strong advocate for growing a strong space industry in Australia and is a member of the South Australian Space Centre Advisory Council and the Industry Director of the SmartSat Co-operative Research Centre. \n  \nPeter was a member of the team responsible for bringing the International Astronautical Congress to Adelaide in 2017\, which was a significant catalyst for the establishment of the Space Agency.

DESCRIPTION:Ian Henschke is Chief Advocate for National Seniors Australia.  He took up this role in 2017 and in 2019 was appointed the Spokesperson for the Alliance for a Fairer Retirement System. \n  \nIan is a former South Australian television journalist and radio presenter.  He reported for the 7.30 Report in the 1980’s and 1990’s and also worked for the ABCTV program Countrywide.  Ian reported for 4 Corners in 1999\, making Emission Impossible\, a documentary about global warming that won the Jury Prize at the 2000 Grenoble International Film Festival.  Ian hosted the ABCTV program Stateline for 10 years\, and then worked on ABC Radio\, until he left the ABC in December 2016. \n  \nIan is a regular columnist for The Advertiser’s Saturday supplement\, SA Weekend.  He was awarded the 2001 Centenary of Federation Medal\, for his services to the Australian society through broadcasting.

DESCRIPTION:Dr David Headon is a cultural consultant and historian.  Formerly Director of the Centre for Australian \nCultural Studies (1994-2004)\, Cultural Adviser to the National Capital Authority (2000-2007)\, History and Heritage Adviser for the Centenary of Canberra (2008-13) and an Adviser to Senator Kate Lundy (2008-15)\, he is now a Foundation Fellow in the Australian Studies Institute (Research School of Humanities and the Arts\, ANU)\, a Parliamentary Library Associate\, an Associate of the National Museum of Australia and the Canberra Raiders RL Club historian. \n  \nDr Headon is a regular commentator on cultural\, political and social issues on ABC radio (regional and national).  From 2008 to 2015\, he presented a series of segments for ABC TV’s 7.30 Report on Canberra’s rich vein of Centenary/Federation history.  In 2001\, David was awarded the Centenary Medal and in 2018 he began a series of annual lectures at the Australian High Commission\, London\, on Australia’s ‘First Eight’ Prime Ministers.

DESCRIPTION:Clint Feuerherdt attended St Joseph’s School in Port Lincoln\, then graduated from the University of Queensland with an Honours Degree in Commerce and was awarded a University Medal.  Clint worked in the banking industry for JPMorgan Chase and Investec Bank\, before leading the Transit Systems Group for 10 years.   \n  \nDuring this time at Transit Systems\, Clint was responsible for leading winning bids in the bus division\, taking the business to the United Kingdom and Singapore and growing the ferry business to become the largest private operator of passenger and vehicle ferries in Australia.  In 2015\, Clint oversaw the sale of Transit Systems Marine to the Sealink Travel Group.  In 2019\, as part of the sale\, it was announced that Clint would became CEO of Sealink \n  \nWith an investment banking background\, Clint is regarded as a transport infrastructure expert.  He is active in shaping transport policy in Australia and is a regular speaker at transport and infrastructure conferences.

DESCRIPTION:Mitchell Butel is an Australian actor\, singer\, writer and director.  He is best known for his work in the theatre\, including musical and opera productions.  Mitchell has worked extensively with many theatre companies\, both in Australia and overseas.  He has been awarded four Helpmann Awards\, two Green Room Awards and four Sydney Theatre Awards.   \nMitchell has appeared in a number of television and film productions and has twice been nominated for Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards.  He has also appeared in a number of productions for Opera Australia.  Mitchell produced a live musical album ‘Killing Time\,’ which was recorded during his performance at the 2010 Adelaide Cabaret Festival and consists of songs and poetry.  In addition\, Mitchell has a number of credits for his writing and directing for the theatre. \nIn March 2019\, Mitchell was appointed the Artistic Director of the State Theatre Company of South Australia.

DESCRIPTION:Gabrielle Kelly is the founding Director of the SAHMRI Wellbeing and Resilience Centre. \n  \nAfter a film-making career\, Gabrielle was an early leader in the digital industry in Australia and New York\, as well as founding Board Member ofScreen Australia\, Australia’s national film investment fund.  Gabrielle was Senior Vice President of the New York based Health Accord\, where she developed digital health and wellbeing products.  In 2000\, Gabrielle was appointed Director of the ground-breaking Adelaide Thinkers in Residenceprogram\, a position she held from 2009 – 2014.  Her work in this role laid the groundwork for what was to become the SAHMRI Wellbeing and Resilience Centre.  An unfunded start up company within SAHMRI\, the Wellbeing and Resilience Centre has attracted well over $8m in funding from public\, private and philanthropic investment. \n  \nGabrielle is a global speaker about the practical application of wellbeing and the ever-expanding body of research knowledge that supports wellbeing and resilience in people across the course of their lives.

DESCRIPTION:Steven Marshall is South Australia’s 46thPremier.  He was elected to the South Australian Parliament as the Member for Norwood in 2010. His electorate has since been renamed Dunstan.  In 2013\, Mr Marshall became the Leader of the Liberal Party and State Opposition. Steven led the Party to victory on March 17th2018.  He is responsible for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation\; Defence and Space Industries; the Arts; Veterans’ Affairs and Multicultural Affairs. \n  \nMr Marshall was born and educated in Adelaide.  Prior to entering public life\, Mr Marshall worked in the manufacturing industry\, running his family’s furniture manufacturing business from 1997.  He completed his secondary schooling at Immanuel College before studying at the University of Adelaide.  He graduated with a Business\, Marketing degree and also holds an MBA from Durham University. \n  \nMr Marshall is a patron and ambassador of numerous sporting and community organisations.  He has lived in the Dunstan area all his adult life and is the father of two children – Charlie and Georgie.

DESCRIPTION:Peter Monteath is a Professor of History at Flinders University in Adelaide.  He was born and grew up in Brisbane before attending the University of Queensland\, Siegen University (Federal Republic of Germany) and Griffith University. \nProfessor Monteath has taught previously at The Universities of Queensland\, Western Australia and Adelaide as well as at Griffith and Deakin Universities.  Peter has also been Adjunct Professor at The University of St. Louis Missouri and the Technical University of Berlin\, where he was an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow. \nCurrently Peter teaches modern European history and writes about various aspects of European and Australian history\, with a particular interest in things German.  Away from Flinders\, he is President of the History Council of South Australia\, a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and a Trustee of the History Trust of South Australia. \nPeter’s Interests include a distant admiration for Hertha BSC (a top-tier German Football Club)\, badminton\, and unabashed nostalgia for the glorydays of the Brisbane Lions.

DESCRIPTION:John Blaxland is Professor of International Security and Intelligence Studies\, Director of the ANU Southeast Asia Institute and Head of the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at ANU\, overseeing its three degree programs. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales. In addition\, he is a member of the ANU Academic Board as well as the Australian Army Journal editorial board and an occasional commentator in the media. He is a US Department of Defense Minerva Research Initiative grant recipient. \nJohn holds a PhD in War Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada\, an MA in History from ANU and a BA (Hons 1) from UNSW. He is a graduate of the Royal Thai Army Command & Staff College (dux\, foreign students) and the Royal Military College\, Duntroon (Blamey Scholar). He has extensive experience in the intelligence community including as the principal intelligence staff officer for the Australian brigade in East Timor in September 1999\, as an intelligence exchange officer in Washington DC\, as Director Joint Intelligence Operations (J2)\, at Headquarters Joint Operations Command (2006/7) and as a lead author of the three-volume history of ASIO. In addition he was Australia’s Defence Attaché to Thailand and Myanmar.  He teaches “Honeypots and Overcoats: Australian Intelligence in the World” and supervises a number of students undertaking higher degrees by research. \nHis publications and research interests concern intelligence and the security arms of government\, Australian military history and strategy\, defence studies\, military operations (including East Timor\, Korea\, Iraq and Afghanistan); international relations\, notably on South-east Asia (Thailand\, Myanmar\, Timor Leste\, Indonesia\, South China Sea)\, North America\, (Canada/United States) and Australia’s Flag. \n

DESCRIPTION:Richard Heathcote was born in the UK and has lived in Australia for 39 years.  Richard is currently Director of Benefaction at Carrick Hill historic house and garden in Adelaide.  He previously worked in Victoria\, where for a decade he managed Rippon Lea Estate\, the National Trust’s flagship property in Melbourne. \nRichard has broadcast and published on art\, heritage buildings and gardens.  He has an extensive knowledge of the collections\, architecture and social history of the English Country House.  Awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2008\, Richard was able to visit locations in Canada and Britain\, looking at the interpretation of heritage sites.  In 2011 Richard also attended the Royal Collections Studies Course that is granted permission to inspect the Queen’s collection at Windsor Castle and other Royal palaces. \nThe fine collection of British and Australian paintings at Carrick Hill has provided rich material for Richard to create exhibitions\, associated publications and documentary films\, using his particular talent for making art accessible to everyone.

DESCRIPTION:Tim Fischer was born at Lockhart on May 3rd1946.  He was educated at Xavier College in Melbourne and conscripted into the Australian Army from 1966 – 1969\, serving with the 1 RAR in both Australia and the Vietnam War\, before returning to the family farm at Boree Creek in southern NSW. \nTim was elected to the NSW State Parliament in 1971\, where he served on a number of Parliamentary Committees and became National Party Whip. He resigned from State politics in 1984 and\, in the same year\, was elected to the Federal Parliament as the Member for Farrer.  During his time in the Federal Parliament\, Tim held a number of senior trade and resource based portfolios; he was elected Leader of the National Party and served as Minister for Trade and Deputy Prime Minister in the Howard Government from 1996 – 1999. \nTim retired from politics in 2001\, served as Chair\, Tourism Australia from 2004 – 2007 and Australian Ambassador to the Holy See in Rome from 2009 – 2012.  Tim is currently the Chairman of the Global Crop Diversity Trust\, which has a seed vault in Svalbard\, Northern Norway.  Tim is now a successful book author; his other interests include family\, farming\, charity work\, biking and bushwalking in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Tim lives at Mudgegonga with his wife Judy and their two sons.

DESCRIPTION:Professor Samantha Hepburn is the Director of the Centre for Energy and Natural Resources Law at Deakin University.  Samantha has extensive experience researching and teaching in natural resources law including mining and energy law\, environmental law and property and land law.  Samantha has written numerous books\, including a Mining and Energy Law book for Cambridge University Press as well as many scholarly articles and opinion pieces in her fields of research.  Samantha regularly contributes to public discussion on media forums including radio national\, radio 5aa and The Conversation (where she has published over 35 articles)\, government committees\, international workshops\, conferences and community forums on the issues relevant to a transitioning energy landscape.   Samantha was a member of the Victorian Auditor General Committee examining unconventional gas development for the Victorian Parliamentary Commission.  She has presented numerous submissions to the Senate Economic References Committee regarding the Adani Coalmine and the National Australia Infrastructure Fund and in 2017 was a delegate for the Japan-Australia Dialogue on Energy Regulation.

DESCRIPTION:Liz Hawkins is the Director of Programming\, Development and Venue Sales at the Adelaide Festival Centre. Liz has just returned from Hong Kong and has exciting news about the 2018 Adelaide Festival and what is happening at the Adelaide Festival Centre. We are fortunate to have Liz as our speaker as the CEO Douglas Gautier has commitments overseas. \nLiz is a professional arts administrator and performer\, with over 30 years experience in project management\, programming and fundraising. In 2010 Liz became the Development Manager at the Festival Centre and in 2012\, she became Director of Programming\, Development and Venue sales. She is on the Board of Directors for CASE Asia Pacific (Council for Advancement and Support of Education)\, is a Director of the Adelaide Festival and serves on the Arts Industry Council. She is involved as a volunteer and consultant for several not for profit organisations. Liz speaks regularly on fundraising\, corporate sponsorships and arts management and serves as a mentor for young fundraising professionals.

SUMMARY:Margot Forster CSM - "The Role of the Defence Training Team in South Australia."
DESCRIPTION:Margot Forster is a graduate of the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies\, with a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Studies. Ms Forster has held a number of important positions during her career\, including Base Commander RAAF Base Williams\, Commanding Officer Combat Support Unit Williams and Chief of Staff of the Aerospace Operational Support Group. In 2012\, Ms Forster was promoted to Group Captain and appointed as Director\, Pathway to Change. Margot then took up the position of Chief of Staff Air Force Personnel Branch and in 2015 she was promoted again and appointed to the position of Commandant\, Australian Command and Staff College. \n  \nMs Forster has received a number of awards and commendations during her career\, including a Conspicuous Service Medal in 2009. In 2016 Ms Forster retired from the Air Force to take up her present position as Chief Executive Officer of the Defence Teaming Centre.

She was Premier of Queensland for almost five years and led the response and recovery effort to devastating floods in January 2011. \nPrior to joining the ABA\, Anna was the CEO of YWCA NSW\, a not-for-profit organisation striving to build a safer world for women and children with services dedicated to ending domestic violence. \nAnna received a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia award in the 2017 Australia Day Honours list\, in recognition of her eminent service to the Parliament of Queensland\, to the not-for-profit sector and the role of women in public life.
