She worked in Hong Kong during the early years of China’s reform and opening\, eventually becoming Australia’s Ambassador to China from 2011-2015. \nIn 2016\, Her Excellency was appointed head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has also been International Adviser to the Prime Minister and Chief of Staff to the Foreign Minister and Defence Minister. In June 2021 Her Excellency was made a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to public administration \nHer Excellency is married to Mr Rod Bunten\, a former British diplomat and high school teacher. DESCRIPTION:Pamela Rajkowski OAM is a South Australian historian who\, since 1980\, travelled Australia while teaching full-time to research\, conduct interviews and document the history and contribution of the Afghan cameleers of Australia. \n  \nPamela interviewed cameleer and Afghan-Aboriginal descendants\, academics\, ethnic community leaders\, Aboriginal people and significant outback characters. Her first book “In the Tracks of the Camelmen” published in 1987\, has been constantly in demand and was followed by two other very popular books in 1995 and 2012. \n  \nPamela is regularly invited to give interviews and public talks on diverse topics related to Afghan cameleers. Pamela has been a consultant to several State and national bodies\, including the SA Museum\, Adelaide City Council\, Adelaide Cemeteries Authority\, the Adelaide City Mosque and the National ABC Coasts series. \nIn 2009\, Pamela was awarded an OAM for her research and community service into the Aboriginal and Afghan cameleers. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

He has over 400 scientific publications and is currently a Chief Investigator on several major grants.  \n\n\n  \n\nProfessor Esterman is one of Australia’s leading experts in the epidemiology of COVID-19\, and much in demand by the media.

SUMMARY:Genevieve Rueger - 'From Helicopter Pilot to Firey'
DESCRIPTION:Genevieve Rueger grew up in Belair with her parents and two older brothers. She left Adelaide at 17 years of age to commence her military training in Canberra. Genevieve graduated from the Army Pilot’s Course as a Helicopter Pilot in 2006 and joined the Counter Terrorism Regiment in Sydney. \nGenevieve lived in most states and territories during her 22 year Army career. She deployed numerous times on domestic and international exercises and proudly on ADF Operations in East Timor (2006) and Afghanistan (2009). Genevieve pursued a new career direction in 2019 and is now a qualified Fire Fighter with the Metropolitan Fire Service\, working in the Adelaide CBD Fire Station. \nHer most honoured civil achievements wers receiving a Women of Achievement Award 2014; being awarded a place on the South Australian Women’s Honour Roll; and dropping her two children\, Kayley and Lachie\, off at school a couple of years ago in a helicopter.

DESCRIPTION:Dr Brian Wheeler is a retired Dentist who has enjoyed a long and rewarding involvement with the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Dr. Wheeler is a life member of RFDS Central Operations (SA&NT)\, having served 23 years on the board including 3 years as Chairman. He was also on the Federal Board for six years\, with two years as National Chairman.   Dr. Wheeler was awarded the OAM for services to the RFDS and Dentistry in 2009. \n  \nDr. Wheeler was born in Renmark in 1946\, educated at St Josephs School Jamestown\, Rostrevor College and The University of Adelaide. He has an interest in Healthcare Services and Aviation\, and held a private pilots licence for over 20 years. Since first becoming involved with the RFDS in 1977\, Dr. Wheeler has seen the organisation founded by Rev. John Flynn in 1928 grow to become the largest aeromedical service in the world.

SUMMARY:Thomas Keneally AO - 'An old man's journey through history\, politics and other small matters'
DESCRIPTION:Thomas Keneally is an iconic Australian novelist\, playwright\, essayist and actor. Thomas was born in Sydney\, but spent his early years in Kempsey before his family moved back to Sydney. He attended Christian Brothers St .Patrick’s College Strathfield and awarded his Leaving Certificate with Honours English. Thomas enroled at St. Patrick’s Seminary Manly\, but he left after six years without being ordained. He then worked as a teacher while his literary career blossomed. Thomas is a most successful and prolific author\, best known for his non-fiction novel ‘Schindler’s Ark’\, which won the Booker Prize in 1982 and was later adapted into a most successful film.  \n  \nThomas was the founding chairman of the Australian Republic Movement and he is also a strong supporter of Rugby League football – in particular the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. Thomas is married to Marion and they have two children. Thomas was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1983 and he is also an Australian Living Legend.

A frequent visitor to South African battlefields until COVID\, he is President of the South Australian Boer War Association.  \n  \nDr. Stimson is also secretary of Community Action for People with Disabilities in Africa\, an Adelaide-based development organisation which seeks to bring about sustainable improvements in the lives of young people with disabilities in Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Region.

SUMMARY:Sally Grundy - 'Mundoo Island Station: History and Birdlife'
DESCRIPTION:Sally Grundy’s family have farmed on Hindmarsh Island and Mundoo Island for many generations. Mundoo Island Station is the last farming property on the River Murray and is dissected by the Coorong Barrages. This provides a unique wetland environment of fresh water on one side and salt water on the other. Living in this diverse habitat\, Sally has developed a passion for the natural environment and she has collected a wealth if data from monitoring and surveying the surrounding animal and bird life. This information assists in the formation of important environmental decisions made by government agencies. Sally is a keen photographer of birds and nature and has written a history of the Station\, dating back to 1843. In addition to her wildlife activities\, Sally is also busy working on the family farm. A typical day for Sally can include mustering\, working with cattle and sheep in the stockyards\, tractor driving\, fencing\, tourism\, followed by the myriad office tasks in the evening. Sally has two children\, Jessie and Jack. Jack is hoping to study Agricultural Science and become the 6th generation to farm the family property.

DESCRIPTION:Lainie Anderson has been a columnist with Adelaide’s Sunday Mail for 14 years. Her 30-year career in journalism and public relations includes stints at the Herald Sun in Melbourne\, The Times in London and the South Australian Tourism Commission.  \n  \nIn 2016 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to gauge the significance of Adelaide’s historic Vickers Vimy aircraft and retrace the route of the 1919 Air Race from England to Australia. She has since written a novel on the race\, Long Flight Home\, and co-produced The Greatest Air Race documentary which aired on SBS TV. Both are available for sale after her presentation.

DESCRIPTION:Rod Barton is a former Director of Strategic Technology in Australia’s Defence Intelligence Organisation.   His intelligence career spanned over 20 years\, with postings to London\, Bahrain\, Baghdad\, New York and Mogadishu.  During this time\, Rod also worked with the United Nations in Somalia as the Director of Disarmament and Demobilisation of Somali militias; and in Iraq as a Principal UN Weapons Inspector.  After the 2003 Iraq War\, he became a special advisor to the CIA in the futile hunt for the so-called\, missing ‘weapons of mass destruction.’ \nRod is the author of “The Weapons Detective – The Inside Story of Australia’s top Weapons Detective.” (Black Inc. 2006) and “The Life of a Spy” (Black Inc. 2021).

The business overtime has gained international recognition as an award winning and innovative seafood processor and exporter\, including two Prix d’Elite Awards at the European Seafood Exposition\, held in Belgium in 2004. \nIn 2005\, Andrew was awarded the prestigious “Icon of the Sea” Award at the South Australian Seafood Awards\, in recognition of his involvement and service to industry. In 2013 Andrew was inducted into the National Seafood Industry’s “Hall of Fame” by the National Seafood Industry Alliance and Wildcatch Fisheries SA Inc\, as recognition of the significant made to the Australian Seafood Industry.

DESCRIPTION:Justice Doyle graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from Adelaide University and a Bachelor of Civil Law from Oxford University. \n   \nJustice Doyle was an associate to the Honourable Justice Lander from 1995-1996\, before joining the legal firm of Fisher Jeffries\, working as a solicitor from 1997-2001.  Justice Doyle was a member of Jeffcott Chambers between 2002-2015 and took silk in 2012.  He was Vice President of the SA Bar Association from 2014-2015. \n  \nJustice Doyle was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia in December 2015.  He has spent the last five years hearing matters in both the civil and criminal jurisdictions of the Court\, regularly sitting as member of the Full Court of the Supreme Court and the Court of Criminal Appeal. \n  \nIn December 2020 Justice Doyle was appointed a Justice of the Court of Appeal. \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:His Excellency the Honorable Hieu Van Le AC is South Australia’s 35th Governor and the first person of Asian origin to be appointed a State Governor in Australia.  He assumed office in September 2014 and will complete his term in office at the end of August 2021.  Previously\, His Excellency had been Lieutenant Governor of South Australia from 2007 to 2014.  Following his arrival as a Vietnamese refugee in 1977\, His Excellency has had a long interest and involvement in multicultural communities.  He served as Chair of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission from 2006 –2009 and was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2001 ‘for services to the advancement of multiculturism in Australia’.  \nThe Honourable Chris Kourakis SC is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia.  He grew up in Port Lincoln as one of ten children of Greek migrants.  Chris practised at the Bar from 1989\, was appointed a QC in 1997 and appointed the Solicitor-General of South Australia from 2003 to 2008.  In 2008 Chris was appointed to the Supreme Court of South Australia and in 2012\, Justice Kourakis was elevated to Chief Justice.   \nThe Chief Justice will deliver a tribute speech on the Governor’s retirement.

SUMMARY:Adj. Professor Nicola Sasanelli  AM - "The Andy Thomas Space Foundation and the Australian Space Ecosystem"
DESCRIPTION:Nicola graduated from the University of Bari\, Italy in 1987 with a degree in Electronic Engineering.  He then worked in microelectronic research\, before being appointed as Scientific Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Canberra from 2001 to 2008.  In 2009\, Nicola joined the South Australian Government as a Special Envoy for Higher Education\, Research and Technology Transfer\, later becoming Director for International R&D Collaborations.  From 2003 to 2013 Nicola was Adjunct Professor of Science and Technology at the Australian National University in Canberra\, and in 2007 he became an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia.  In 2017 the South Australian Space Industry Centre was created with Nicola as Director.  In 2018\, Nicola was appointed Adjunct Professor at the University of South Australia in the Division of Information Technology\, Engineering and the Environment. In the same year Nicola was appointed to the Board of the Space Industry Association of Australia and awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for promoting high technology and R&D collaboration between Italy and Australia.  In 2019\, Nicola became the Senior Advisor of the South Australian Space Industry Centre\, and in 2020 he founded the Andy Thomas Space Foundation\, of which he is now the CEO.

DESCRIPTION:David Mark grew up in Adelaide and attended the South Australian College of Advanced Education.  David holds a Bachelor of Education\, Physical Education Teaching and Coaching degree and a MBA in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management. \n  \nComing from a football family\, it was natural for David to gravitate to SANFL football administration and he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Norwood Football Club for 8 years.  David then moved to Canberra\, where he held the position of General Manager of AFL Canberra for 2 years. \n  \nLeaving sport\, David then moved into the not-for-profit world\, initially joining Novita as the Director of Commercial Services.  David was then CEO at St Vincent De Pauls and just over a year ago he joined Operation Flinders\, where he currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. James Muecke AM graduated with Honours from Adelaide Medical School in 1987.  James lived and worked as a doctor in Africa and subsequently as an eye surgeon in the Middle East\, battling malaria\, wild animals and rebel soldiers.  He founded ‘Sight for All’ in 2008\,’ which is dedicated to fighting blindness in the Aboriginal and mainstream communities of Australia and some of the poorer countries in Asia and Africa.  \n Dr. Muecke’s commitment to social impact and humanitarian endeavours has earned him many awards\, including an Order of Australia in 2012\, the Australian Medical Association’s President’s Leadership Award in 2013 and the Ernst & Young’s Social Entrepreneur for Australia in 2015 and most recently Australian of the Year 2020.  \nJames is a researcher\, an author\, a musician\, a photographer and a film producer.  He uses his many skills to deliver passionate\, fascinating and sometimes confronting presentations.  A neurological condition impacting on his dexterity has forced Dr. Muecke into premature retirement from surgery.  James has redirected his vigour to crafting films and has already produced a number of documentaries and several compelling projects in production

DESCRIPTION:Monica Oliphant is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of South Australia\, a University Fellow at Charles Darwin University and also runs her own Consultancy.  She worked 18 years for the electricity utility ETSA as a research scientist in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency and was involved in the SA Government’s wind resource assessment program in the late 1980’s. \n  \nAdjunct Associate Professor Oliphant is a member of the International Solar Energy Society and was President from 2008 – 2009.  Monica has travelled extensively overseas\, speaking at Conferences and meetings. \nAdjunct Associate Professor Oliphant has participated on many Australian Federal and State Government Committees and was a Board member of both the Premier’s Round Table in sustainability and then Renewables SA.  She received an AO in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours List in recognition of her work in Renewable Energy and was named 2016 Senior South Australian of the Year.

DESCRIPTION:Peter Nikoloff is an Executive Director and Co-founder of Nova Systems and Senior Weapons System Engineer.  He obtained an Aeronautical Engineer degree from RMIT in 1986 and has 30 years experience supporting Defence and Space projects.  Peter’s Woomera Test Range experience includes supporting the recent upgrade and operations for both military weapon systems and launch operations. \n  \nSpace is one of Nova’s fastest growing areas\, supporting Defence’s Military Satcom\, Geospatial Information Systems and Satellite Ground Stations.  Peter is a strong advocate for growing a strong space industry in Australia and is a member of the South Australian Space Centre Advisory Council and the Industry Director of the SmartSat Co-operative Research Centre. \n  \nPeter was a member of the team responsible for bringing the International Astronautical Congress to Adelaide in 2017\, which was a significant catalyst for the establishment of the Space Agency.

DESCRIPTION:Ian Henschke is Chief Advocate for National Seniors Australia.  He took up this role in 2017 and in 2019 was appointed the Spokesperson for the Alliance for a Fairer Retirement System. \n  \nIan is a former South Australian television journalist and radio presenter.  He reported for the 7.30 Report in the 1980’s and 1990’s and also worked for the ABCTV program Countrywide.  Ian reported for 4 Corners in 1999\, making Emission Impossible\, a documentary about global warming that won the Jury Prize at the 2000 Grenoble International Film Festival.  Ian hosted the ABCTV program Stateline for 10 years\, and then worked on ABC Radio\, until he left the ABC in December 2016. \n  \nIan is a regular columnist for The Advertiser’s Saturday supplement\, SA Weekend.  He was awarded the 2001 Centenary of Federation Medal\, for his services to the Australian society through broadcasting.

DESCRIPTION:Clint Feuerherdt attended St Joseph’s School in Port Lincoln\, then graduated from the University of Queensland with an Honours Degree in Commerce and was awarded a University Medal.  Clint worked in the banking industry for JPMorgan Chase and Investec Bank\, before leading the Transit Systems Group for 10 years.   \n  \nDuring this time at Transit Systems\, Clint was responsible for leading winning bids in the bus division\, taking the business to the United Kingdom and Singapore and growing the ferry business to become the largest private operator of passenger and vehicle ferries in Australia.  In 2015\, Clint oversaw the sale of Transit Systems Marine to the Sealink Travel Group.  In 2019\, as part of the sale\, it was announced that Clint would became CEO of Sealink \n  \nWith an investment banking background\, Clint is regarded as a transport infrastructure expert.  He is active in shaping transport policy in Australia and is a regular speaker at transport and infrastructure conferences.

DESCRIPTION:Mitchell Butel is an Australian actor\, singer\, writer and director.  He is best known for his work in the theatre\, including musical and opera productions.  Mitchell has worked extensively with many theatre companies\, both in Australia and overseas.  He has been awarded four Helpmann Awards\, two Green Room Awards and four Sydney Theatre Awards.   \nMitchell has appeared in a number of television and film productions and has twice been nominated for Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards.  He has also appeared in a number of productions for Opera Australia.  Mitchell produced a live musical album ‘Killing Time\,’ which was recorded during his performance at the 2010 Adelaide Cabaret Festival and consists of songs and poetry.  In addition\, Mitchell has a number of credits for his writing and directing for the theatre. \nIn March 2019\, Mitchell was appointed the Artistic Director of the State Theatre Company of South Australia.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Saarela is a Research Director in food sciences at South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) and an Affiliate Professor in the School of Agriculture\, Food and Wine\, Faculty of Sciences\, University of Adelaide. \n  \nDr. Saarela graduated from the University of Helsinki and she is a Doctor of Food Sciences.  She began working at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland\, where she was involved in food microbiology and functional food research for 20 years.  In 2015 Dr. Saarela coordinated a large governmentally funded project in South Australia on Functional and Luxury Food Value Chains in Asia and Australia\, including Foresights.  During the past 10 years Dr. Saarela has been working with EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) in various expert tasks related to food and feed safety.

DESCRIPTION:Gabrielle Kelly is the founding Director of the SAHMRI Wellbeing and Resilience Centre. \n  \nAfter a film-making career\, Gabrielle was an early leader in the digital industry in Australia and New York\, as well as founding Board Member ofScreen Australia\, Australia’s national film investment fund.  Gabrielle was Senior Vice President of the New York based Health Accord\, where she developed digital health and wellbeing products.  In 2000\, Gabrielle was appointed Director of the ground-breaking Adelaide Thinkers in Residenceprogram\, a position she held from 2009 – 2014.  Her work in this role laid the groundwork for what was to become the SAHMRI Wellbeing and Resilience Centre.  An unfunded start up company within SAHMRI\, the Wellbeing and Resilience Centre has attracted well over $8m in funding from public\, private and philanthropic investment. \n  \nGabrielle is a global speaker about the practical application of wellbeing and the ever-expanding body of research knowledge that supports wellbeing and resilience in people across the course of their lives.

DESCRIPTION:Steven Marshall is South Australia’s 46thPremier.  He was elected to the South Australian Parliament as the Member for Norwood in 2010. His electorate has since been renamed Dunstan.  In 2013\, Mr Marshall became the Leader of the Liberal Party and State Opposition. Steven led the Party to victory on March 17th2018.  He is responsible for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation\; Defence and Space Industries; the Arts; Veterans’ Affairs and Multicultural Affairs. \n  \nMr Marshall was born and educated in Adelaide.  Prior to entering public life\, Mr Marshall worked in the manufacturing industry\, running his family’s furniture manufacturing business from 1997.  He completed his secondary schooling at Immanuel College before studying at the University of Adelaide.  He graduated with a Business\, Marketing degree and also holds an MBA from Durham University. \n  \nMr Marshall is a patron and ambassador of numerous sporting and community organisations.  He has lived in the Dunstan area all his adult life and is the father of two children – Charlie and Georgie.
