DESCRIPTION:Rebecca Knol is the Chief Executive Officer of the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy\, the leading industry association representing resource and energy companies\, including those who provide services to them. \n  \nSACOME member companies underpin the South Australian economy\, contributing $10.7 billion to the state economy\, 8.3% of South Australia’s Gross State Product\, or $1 in every $12.  The sector supports the full time employment of almost 43\,000 people and today 1 in every 14 jobs in the State is supported by the resources sector. In 2021/22 the resources sector accounted for $5.9 billion in exports and $380m in royalties to the State Government. \n  \nRebecca has worked in the mining\, oil & gas sectors as a consultant\, in addition to roles with mining and gas energy companies in Australia and Africa. She joined SACOME as CEO in late 2016 and positions SACOME at the forefront of policy and advocacy leadership in South Australia.

Andrew has had many years’ experience working across the financial services\, FMCG and wine sectors and is determined to play a role in projecting his belief that South Australia is one of the best places in the world to do business. \nHe has worked with family businesses\, SMEs and multinationals and most recently was at the helm of Wirra Wirra Vineyards for 15 years. Andrew has a Bachelor of Business degree\, an MBA in International Business and in 2014 spent time at Harvard Business School on a scholarship proved by the South Australian Industry Leaders Fund\, so it is only fitting that he finds himself at Business SA keen to work with business and Government to create an environment where local operators have every opportunity to achieve their dreams. \nAndrew sits on the Board of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium where he is also Chair of the Botanic Gardens Foundation\, as well as the Board of Centennial Park. In his spare time\, he is a frustrated but loyal Adelaide Crows supporter\, a cricket tragic\, music buff and self-described very ordinary guitar player. He is married with two adult children and two infantile pugs. \n

DESCRIPTION:Brian Oldman has held senior executive roles in some of London’s most respected cultural and scientific institutions\, having worked in transformative roles at the British Museum\, the National Maritime Museum\, the Zoological Society of London and Sir John Sloane’s Museum. \n  \nBrian commenced at the South Australian Museum in January 2014. The Museum is Australia’s leading research Museum; custodian of the most comprehensive collection’ of Australian Aboriginal cultural material; houses the largest national collection of whales and dolphins and the largest museum collection of opals in the world. Brian has successfully led dynamic programs to increase visitor numbers\, linked institutional research to community programs\, built collaboration within institutions\, developed commercial income streams and overseen successful major developments. \n  \nIn 2021\, Brian was elected as Chair of the Council of Australasian Museum Directors – the peak body of Museum Directors in Australia and New Zealand. In August 2022\, after nine years as Museum Director\, Brian announced that he would be resigning at the end of year and returning to the UK.

SUMMARY:Michael O'Connell - Consulting Victimologist - 'Evolution of Crime: Victim's Rights'
DESCRIPTION:Michael O’Connell is a consulting Victimologist; Victim Advocate for Second Chances SA; Member of the International Network of Services for Victims of Terrorism; White Ribbon Ambassador; Patron\, Love and Gratitude and\, Foundation Board Member of Victim Support Asia. \nMichael served as the inaugural Commissioner for Victims’ Rights\, South Australia (2006-2018).  Before that appointment\, he served as the state’s first Victims of Crime Co-ordinator and while employed as a police officer he was appointed the state’s first Victim Impact Statement Co-ordinator. \nMichael is a life member and current Secretary-General for the World Society of Victimology (WSV).  He also chairs the WSV United Nations Liaison Committee. Michael lectures and writes in the field of Victimology and criminal justice\, as well as volunteers as a journal editor (e.g. Journal of Victimology and Victim Justice). In 1995 he was awarded the Australia Police Medal (APM) for his work to advance responses to the needs of victims of crime. In 2010 he received Victim Support Australasia’ national award for advancing Victimology and promoting victims’ rights; and\, in 2017 he became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).

She worked in Hong Kong during the early years of China’s reform and opening\, eventually becoming Australia’s Ambassador to China from 2011-2015. \nIn 2016\, Her Excellency was appointed head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has also been International Adviser to the Prime Minister and Chief of Staff to the Foreign Minister and Defence Minister. In June 2021 Her Excellency was made a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to public administration \nHer Excellency is married to Mr Rod Bunten\, a former British diplomat and high school teacher. They have four adult children and a Cavoodle\, ‘Alfie’.

DESCRIPTION:Pamela Rajkowski OAM is a South Australian historian who\, since 1980\, travelled Australia while teaching full-time to research\, conduct interviews and document the history and contribution of the Afghan cameleers of Australia. \n  \nPamela interviewed cameleer and Afghan-Aboriginal descendants\, academics\, ethnic community leaders\, Aboriginal people and significant outback characters. Her first book “In the Tracks of the Camelmen” published in 1987\, has been constantly in demand and was followed by two other very popular books in 1995 and 2012. \n  \nPamela is regularly invited to give interviews and public talks on diverse topics related to Afghan cameleers. DESCRIPTION:Genevieve Rueger grew up in Belair with her parents and two older brothers. She left Adelaide at 17 years of age to commence her military training in Canberra. Genevieve graduated from the Army Pilot’s Course as a Helicopter Pilot in 2006 and joined the Counter Terrorism Regiment in Sydney. \nGenevieve lived in most states and territories during her 22 year Army career. She deployed numerous times on domestic and international exercises and proudly on ADF Operations in East Timor (2006) and Afghanistan (2009). Genevieve pursued a new career direction in 2019 and is now a qualified Fire Fighter with the Metropolitan Fire Service\, working in the Adelaide CBD Fire Station. \nHer most honoured civil achievements wers receiving a Women of Achievement Award 2014; being awarded a place on the South Australian Women’s Honour Roll; and dropping her two children\, Kayley and Lachie\, off at school a couple of years ago in a helicopter.

He was also on the Federal Board for six years\, with two years as National Chairman.   Dr. Wheeler was awarded the OAM for services to the RFDS and Dentistry in 2009. \n  \nDr. Wheeler was born in Renmark in 1946\, educated at St Josephs School Jamestown\, Rostrevor College and The University of Adelaide. He has an interest in Healthcare Services and Aviation\, and held a private pilots licence for over 20 years. Since first becoming involved with the RFDS in 1977\, Dr. Wheeler has seen the organisation founded by Rev. John Flynn in 1928 grow to become the largest aeromedical service in the world.

DESCRIPTION:Thomas Keneally is an iconic Australian novelist\, playwright\, essayist and actor. Thomas was born in Sydney\, but spent his early years in Kempsey before his family moved back to Sydney. He attended Christian Brothers St .Patrick’s College Strathfield and awarded his Leaving Certificate with Honours English. Thomas enroled at St. Patrick’s Seminary Manly\, but he left after six years without being ordained. He then worked as a teacher while his literary career blossomed. Thomas is a most successful and prolific author\, best known for his non-fiction novel ‘Schindler’s Ark’\, which won the Booker Prize in 1982 and was later adapted into a most successful film.  \n  \nThomas was the founding chairman of the Australian Republic Movement and he is also a strong supporter of Rugby League football – in particular the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. Thomas is married to Marion and they have two children. Thomas was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1983 and he is also an Australian Living Legend.

DESCRIPTION:Sally Grundy’s family have farmed on Hindmarsh Island and Mundoo Island for many generations. Mundoo Island Station is the last farming property on the River Murray and is dissected by the Coorong Barrages. This provides a unique wetland environment of fresh water on one side and salt water on the other. Living in this diverse habitat\, Sally has developed a passion for the natural environment and she has collected a wealth if data from monitoring and surveying the surrounding animal and bird life. This information assists in the formation of important environmental decisions made by government agencies. Sally is a keen photographer of birds and nature and has written a history of the Station\, dating back to 1843. In addition to her wildlife activities\, Sally is also busy working on the family farm. A typical day for Sally can include mustering\, working with cattle and sheep in the stockyards\, tractor driving\, fencing\, tourism\, followed by the myriad office tasks in the evening. Sally has two children\, Jessie and Jack. Jack is hoping to study Agricultural Science and become the 6th generation to farm the family property.

DESCRIPTION:His Excellency the Honorable Hieu Van Le AC is South Australia’s 35th Governor and the first person of Asian origin to be appointed a State Governor in Australia.  He assumed office in September 2014 and will complete his term in office at the end of August 2021.  Previously\, His Excellency had been Lieutenant Governor of South Australia from 2007 to 2014.  Following his arrival as a Vietnamese refugee in 1977\, His Excellency has had a long interest and involvement in multicultural communities.  He served as Chair of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission from 2006 –2009 and was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2001 ‘for services to the advancement of multiculturism in Australia’.  \nThe Honourable Chris Kourakis SC is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia.  He grew up in Port Lincoln as one of ten children of Greek migrants.  Chris practised at the Bar from 1989\, was appointed a QC in 1997 and appointed the Solicitor-General of South Australia from 2003 to 2008.  In 2008 Chris was appointed to the Supreme Court of South Australia and in 2012\, Justice Kourakis was elevated to Chief Justice.   \nThe Chief Justice will deliver a tribute speech on the Governor’s retirement.

DESCRIPTION:Nicola graduated from the University of Bari\, Italy in 1987 with a degree in Electronic Engineering.  He then worked in microelectronic research\, before being appointed as Scientific Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Canberra from 2001 to 2008.  In 2009\, Nicola joined the South Australian Government as a Special Envoy for Higher Education\, Research and Technology Transfer\, later becoming Director for International R&D Collaborations.  From 2003 to 2013 Nicola was Adjunct Professor of Science and Technology at the Australian National University in Canberra\, and in 2007 he became an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia.  In 2017 the South Australian Space Industry Centre was created with Nicola as Director.  In 2018\, Nicola was appointed Adjunct Professor at the University of South Australia in the Division of Information Technology\, Engineering and the Environment. In the same year Nicola was appointed to the Board of the Space Industry Association of Australia and awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for promoting high technology and R&D collaboration between Italy and Australia.  In 2019\, Nicola became the Senior Advisor of the South Australian Space Industry Centre\, and in 2020 he founded the Andy Thomas Space Foundation\, of which he is now the CEO.

DESCRIPTION:Dr David Headon is a cultural consultant and historian.  Formerly Director of the Centre for Australian \nCultural Studies (1994-2004)\, Cultural Adviser to the National Capital Authority (2000-2007)\, History and Heritage Adviser for the Centenary of Canberra (2008-13) and an Adviser to Senator Kate Lundy (2008-15)\, he is now a Foundation Fellow in the Australian Studies Institute (Research School of Humanities and the Arts\, ANU)\, a Parliamentary Library Associate\, an Associate of the National Museum of Australia and the Canberra Raiders RL Club historian. \n  \nDr Headon is a regular commentator on cultural\, political and social issues on ABC radio (regional and national).  From 2008 to 2015\, he presented a series of segments for ABC TV’s 7.30 Report on Canberra’s rich vein of Centenary/Federation history.  In 2001\, David was awarded the Centenary Medal and in 2018 he began a series of annual lectures at the Australian High Commission\, London\, on Australia’s ‘First Eight’ Prime Ministers.

DESCRIPTION:David Mark grew up in Adelaide and attended the South Australian College of Advanced Education.  David holds a Bachelor of Education\, Physical Education Teaching and Coaching degree and a MBA in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management. \n  \nComing from a football family\, it was natural for David to gravitate to SANFL football administration and he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Norwood Football Club for 8 years.  David then moved to Canberra\, where he held the position of General Manager of AFL Canberra for 2 years. \n  \nLeaving sport\, David then moved into the not-for-profit world\, initially joining Novita as the Director of Commercial Services.  David was then CEO at St Vincent De Pauls and just over a year ago he joined Operation Flinders\, where he currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. James Muecke AM graduated with Honours from Adelaide Medical School in 1987.  James lived and worked as a doctor in Africa and subsequently as an eye surgeon in the Middle East\, battling malaria\, wild animals and rebel soldiers.  He founded ‘Sight for All’ in 2008\,’ which is dedicated to fighting blindness in the Aboriginal and mainstream communities of Australia and some of the poorer countries in Asia and Africa.  \n Dr. Muecke’s commitment to social impact and humanitarian endeavours has earned him many awards\, including an Order of Australia in 2012\, the Australian Medical Association’s President’s Leadership Award in 2013 and the Ernst & Young’s Social Entrepreneur for Australia in 2015 and most recently Australian of the Year 2020.  \nJames is a researcher\, an author\, a musician\, a photographer and a film producer.  He uses his many skills to deliver passionate\, fascinating and sometimes confronting presentations.  A neurological condition impacting on his dexterity has forced Dr. Muecke into premature retirement from surgery.  James has redirected his vigour to crafting films and has already produced a number of documentaries and several compelling projects in production
